Overview: National's CLC digital video
and SDI cable drivers and equalizers provide high fidelity performance at
data rates from 40Mb/s to 650Mb/s. Obtaining good performance from these
devices requires the design engineer to look deeply into the device specifications
and operating characteristics in order to understand those things that most
critically affect in-system performance. This seminar will address specific
system design issues, special device requirements and techniques that will
speed design of systems and avoid common mistakes in the application of
these devices. This seminar will address advanced topics in SDV/SDI system
design and assumes that the attendee is familiar with SDV/SDI principles
and standards, transmission systems, cabling and semiconductor devices used
to construct such systems.
Length: 60 minutes
Published Date: August 2002
Topics covered in this online seminar include:
- System Environment (Typical SDV Data Path slide)
- Signal Origination
- Transmission Medium
- Signal Reception : Receiver system
- Testing Equalizers
- Design Aids and Assistance
Presenter: James Mears is a Member
of the Technical Staff in National Semiconductor's Interface Products Group
working in application development for National's Serial Digital Video and
Interface products. He is the creator of National's popular Transmission
Line and Serial Digital and Interface RAPIDESIGNER© sliderules for
engineers. James is a National patent holder.
James received his BSEE in 1970 from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute.
His experience includes the design and construction of broadcast television
production facilities, HF/DF antenna systems, RF test equipment, computer
and communication systems, electric motors and drive systems, audio equipment
and instrumentation, and semiconductors. He joined Fairchild Semiconductor
in 1981 and National Semiconductor through its subsequent acquisition
of Fairchild. James has held several positions in Applications Engineering
and Management. He is also an accomplished technical author, residential
architect and composer of liturgical music.
